BerlinSwim 2016

Following on from OTS' recent international success at European Champs in London, and Eurogames in Helsinki, a group of 19 swimmers including 6 women travelled over to Berlin to compete in Vorspiel Swim Club's Masters Championships with teams from all over Europe taking part.

There was a great atmosphere on poolside with athletes of all ages and abilities cheering and supporting eachother on. Many new friendships were made with other teams, crossing Brexit boundaries.

Despite the completion being a new challenge for many, the team left with a fantastic haul of 56 medals overall; 19 Gold, 21 Silver and 16 Bronze, of which 7 of the medals were won by Laura (who incidentally also lasted the longest on the dance floor #endurance). Another notable highlight was the 3 men's freestyle relay teams racing side by side fighting closely to the end. OTS took Gold, Silver and Bronze in this event!!  It was Donna, Anna and Erika's 2nd ever competition, PB's were made and more medals won. Emily swam her debut 200 IM and won a silver, Geraldine swam her 2nd PB in 400m this season and won 3 medals.

The hosting club also put on a spectacular night out post competition where all of us danced our socks off till unathlete-like hours.  The next day was followed by a lavish cabaret brunch in a historical market hall and an insightful walking tour commentated by architects in the club.  It was a spectacular weekend thoroughly enjoyed by all - competitive medal winners, swimmers new to competition, those who swam a little bit but mainly focused on the party and the partners who traveled to support.

The club will be looking to attend more international competitions next year. If you feel this is something that you wish to take part in please speak to Andrew or one of the coaches.
