ASA National Masters Championships 2016
What a medal haul! 19 medals, yes 19 medals, for Out to Swim in Sheffield at the ASA National Masters Championships 2016. This is a wonderful result for the club and surely one of the most successful national championships in our history. 6 golds, 7 silvers and 6 bronze medals were proudly worn poolside, as we showed the country just what we can do: swim fast.
Pick of the bunch? It’s a close call between Lizzie B’s impressive haul of 4 golds (50 fly, 100 fly, 200 fly and 400 IM), Matthew L’s astonishing gold in 22.75 seconds in the 50 free (making him the fastest man in the pool across all age groups) and David F’s scintillating gold in the 200 breaststroke. Wow. David F picked up a further 2 silvers and Matthew L a silver. Blimey.
Our other individual medalists were also awesome: Neal T (1 silver, 3 bronze), Andrew B (1 silver, 2 bronze) and David DM (1 bronze).
Another highlight was our 2 silvers in the 100+ 200m freestyle and medley relays. Stephen L, Matthew L, Andrew B and Neal T combined to scorch their way onto the podium. It took a British record by the winning club to beat them.
However, it wasn’t just medals that we brought home. There were other fantastic swims producing amazing PB’s to be proud of, from experienced and new swimmers alike.
Out to Swim were coached magnificently by Nathan throughout the weekend, always on hand with some technical wisdom. All who swam encouraged, praised and supported each other and, of course, what goes on tour stays on tour. Well done everyone: Chris C, Christophe D, Chris R, Daniel H, Jose C, Martin B, Nicholas G, Nick M, Rob E. You were all fabulous.
