Women's Water Polo Winter Tournament
On 22 January, the Orca Ladies played their first Winter tournament @ Whitgift School in South Croydon.
Up first were the young, fast, young, feisty & young Beckenham ladies. Our first real match together as a team was always going to be a tough one & to give Beckenham credit they were a strong team (winning all their games on the night).
Most of the goals they scored were on counter attacks & the score line ended 6-0. To our credit this was the lowest score for Beckenham of the evening (go us) & our ladies never gave up!
Our 2nd game was against Croydon & we came out guns blazing! Some much needed driving saw us win kick outs & there was some good passing around the arc/mushroom.
It was a close game against Croydon, but in the end we were EXTREMELY unlucky to lose 4-3, which literally all came down to outright horrible refereeing! 😤
The game really was stolen from us by the refs.
With fire in our bellies after the crap calls & close loss the previous game, our last game was against Oxford.
Unfortunately our fitness/ unfitness held us back this game & we really lacked movement in the pool. Oxford used this to their advantage & swam us silly, again scoring mostly via counter attacks.
Thania made some amazing saves under pressure & was great giving direction to our defence.
Everyone gave it their all & did the Orca name & spirit proud!
Ladies we can only go up from here! 🤗
Lastly, A HUGE thank you to some of the boys who ventured out of London to support us: Ricky, Walid & Colin your cheering, support & feedback was much appreciate! an even bigger thanks to Andy for doing the table & Jeremy for being our ref for the night! 💋❤️
