Frequently Asked Questions
How do I book my first swim?
Register your interest here, complete the relevant forms and we will be in touch to arrange your taster sessions.
We use the Arrivaly app which allows our members to book a session up to 7 days in advance. You can easily choose which session you would like to attend and the time/date/venue will be visible on the app..
What happens on my first swim?
One of the committee members will meet you at the pool, show you the changing facilities and pool-side where you will meet the coach. They'll be on hand to help you interpret things like acronyms and lane etiquette.
We have prepared a coaching glossary below to help you understand swimming terms.
What do I wear?
Options include trunks, jammers and costumes, but swimmers are free to swim in swimwear they find comfortable. It is advised that baggy clothing will be much more tiring to swim in, and may hinder your movements, but it won’t stop you training with us.
Do I need any equipment?
All you need is a pair of goggles. We encourage you to wear a swimming cap as they reduce drag and keep hair out of the water which is good for pool hygiene.
If you have them, please bring a pull buoy, kickboard and a pair of fins. These can be purchased at a later date if needed,we can help you with this.
Is everyone else really fit?
We have a wide range of swimming experience and different body shapes, we are here to support you.
Do you offer any support to students or those on limited means?
Out to Swim Bristol offers a range of different memberships, including a 1 swim per week option. All of our membership options are available here.
Alternatively, the charity offers a bursary scheme to help any member who might otherwise struggle to attend access training sessions or participate in competitions. Support can come in many forms and more details are available here.
If you have any further questions, do send us an email: bristol@outtoswim.org.
