Riding high on a hugely successful GLLAM2017, OTS sent 13 swimmers to National Shortcourse Masters in Sheffield. We had a good mix of seasoned regulars and newbies with Jaime, Steph and Miguel making their nationals debut, and raising the game with a personal best extravaganza.
Chris Preston rounded off a great comeback year with a bronze medal in the 100 backstroke and Phil Collins made some huge age group PBs. David D-M also managed some PBs in his sprint freestyle events.
There were medals galore won this year with Chris M taking home silver in the 200 IM and then soldiering through a tough 200 fly for bronze almost immediately after. Andrew Benson made it onto the podium with bronze in the 50 and 200 breast, narrowly missing out on the 100 with a 4th.
Matthew L powered through again in the 50 and 100 free, taking gold in both events for the second year running. Neal T was back to his best form over the weekend taking home 5 silver medals and clinched a gold in the 100 IM.
Out To Swim are renowned for their successful relay teams at this event and this year was no exception. Our 4 x 50 Medley relay took bronze and the 4 x 50 free took silver, just 9 hundredths from gold! Well done to Matthew, Neal, Stefano, Christophe, Neal and Andrew who took part in these teams.
Above all the closeness, support and noise made cheering on the team stood out over the weekend. OTS came to slay and are here to stay. We now look forward to starting the new competition season in January 2018. If you want to be taking part in nationals next year speak to your coaches to help you set some goals.
