It was beginning to feel like a re-enactment of Agatha Christie’s "And Then There Were None" when only 7 Orcas arrived in Croydon for the penultimate match of the women’s summer league against Oxford.
We agreed to play 7-minute quarters and we managed to pick up a player from another team to be our one sub (thanks, Alice!). The match started well, with the superlative Carlotta scoring from pit on our first possession. Her goal was followed by one from Janice and one from Elise to put us up 3-1 at the end of the first quarter.
Sef was in goal once again and the sound of her catching yet another shot on goal was the soundtrack throughout the match. A fired-up Elise scored 2 more goals and Carlotta 1 in the 2nd quarter to bring the score to 6-2 at the half. Our dynamic duo put another 1 each in the back of the net to bring us to 8-4 at the end of quarter 3. Carlotta’s fire was undampened in the final quarter with another 2 from pit.
Final score: 10-6!!!
Special mention goes also to swim-her-heart-out Ria, with superb defence from Marijke and Janice. Our man-up play was superb as well. Basically, we kicked ass!! Well done, women.
